Hi Everyone,
I apologize for my lack of posting, but it has been an extremely busy couple of weeks!
After prom, I was still trying to catch up on my sleep, but I had to keep moving because the week after I began working at the YMCA. There, I teach two different cheer classes. I love being able to work with the little girls. In one of my classes, I teach two through five-year-old girls cheers and jumps; however, their favorite thing to do is race across the gym! It is a lot of fun to work with them and I will be sad once the session is over.
Because of working at the YMCA, I have taken many classes about working with children. These classes have not only helped me with my work but they can help me as Miss Pearl City's Outstanding Teen. One of the classes, Listen First, was a great class that had everyone practice really listening to what other people have to say. It may seem like a fundamental thing that everyone should already know, but it wasn't. This class was very eye opening. It taught me not only to hear what someone has to say, but to listen to them. I feel like this class will help me when working with my speaking, knowledge, and work with the state of Iowa.
I am also proud to say that I am now CPR and First Aid certified! This was also apart of my classes required by the YMCA. I feel much more confident knowing that I can help someone if there was ever a problem. Even though I hope to never have to use this training, I am glad I will know what to do.
Everyone always asks "What do you want to be when you grow up". I have gone back and forth about possible jobs and I can never seem to come up with a definite answer; however, I have recently decided to go into physical therapy. Because of this decision, I have began working with Genesis in their physical therapy programs. More specifically, Prescription Fitness is a physical therapy program that works directly with over weight children, and I have been able to work with them as a part of my platform work. These session have showed me what effects childhood obesity truly has on children. I am so glad to be able to work with this program. By doing so, I believe I am truly making a difference. I am doing more than just talking to children; I am working along side them to over come their challenges.

Talking with the girls in the program
Also this past week, the end of the year debate banquet was held. We only had one graduating senior, Annie, but she is a great friend of mine and it will be sad without her next year. We said goodbye to Annie and handed out awards. I was voted varsity member of the year by the novice members of the team. It was a great honor for only being a sophomore. Soon we will be electing officers and I hope to be elected president. Hopefully we will know the results soon! :)

Only about half of our team could come, but it was still a great time.
My Best friends on the team, Kelcie, Annie, and Molly <3
Its just about the end of the school year, and there are only three days left! Finals are coming up and I am getting anxious for summer. This past week I went through show choir auditions for next year. I am so glad to have made it again, and we will already be having our fist choreography camp in two days! I cant wait to begin learning our show. I am also very happy to say that my brother made it into show choir as a freshman! I cant wait to begin the year and see how well we do.
This Friday I will be heading down to Muscatine to talk to students about healthy living. I will be speaking to a group of about 320 students! Its very nerve racking to be speaking to such a large group, but I am up to the challenge! I cant wait to share my ideas with these kids and hopefully spark some interest in them to live healthy lives.
I will blog again soon about my trip to Muscatine and the new adventures I will have in the upcoming weeks.
Just about two weeks until Miss Iowa! :)
Jess
