Almost There!

Hello Everyone!

A lot has happened the past couple weeks. I finished all my school finals and was very glad to have done very well in all of my classes. Since school is out, and I have been able to spent a lot more time preparing for Miss Iowa.

On the 23rd I made my final trip to Herbert Hoover Elementary School to work with my class. I have visited them every week for six weeks, and it was sad to have to say goodbye. At the end of my visit I gave awards to the students who did the best at The President's Challenge. I gave each winner a certificate and a price such as mini base ball bats, golf clubs, boomerangs, ect. I will truly miss each and every one of those kids! Also, I made the visit with Miss Pearl City, Elizabeth Davidson. She gave a fantastic presentation! It's amazing how well she can work with the students. All her work is truly paying off, and I cant wait to support her at Miss Iowa!!

The next day I had another mock interview. Andrew Robinson and Ashley Brown were giving the interview, and even though there were only two of them, they gave a great Mock. I have worked with Andrew for over a year now, and he has been a great help! Whether it is talent or interview, Andrew is awesome! Miss Muscatine's Outstanding Teen, Brooklyn Heuer, joined us for the interview, and it was great to be able to hear all of her acomplishments and beliefs. I excited to cheer her on as well and I am so happy to have her as one of my pageant sisters.

Wednesday, Bettendorf High School's show choir, Surround Sound, had their first choreography camp. The direction our group has taken after one day is amazing! I can not wait to start the year!

Friday, I made my trip to Muscatine to talk to Washington Elementary School. I gave each student a bookmark that reminds students five simple tips to being healthy.
1.) Eat Breakfast
2.) Drink Water
3.) Get Outside/ Move!
4.) Have Healthy Snacks
5.) Eat Colorful Meals
Through these points, students see that they don't have to make a lot of changes to their normal diet. I explain to them that it is the smallest changes that make the biggest difference. In Muscatine, I played 'Simon Says' with volunteers for prizes such as the golf sets, base ball bats, mini basketball hoops, ect. It was a lot of fun to have such a large group to interact with! Over 300 kids!

This week, however, I began a new part of my job. YPALS is a program that educates kids about healthy choices and gets them moving. We have around thirty kids at a time, and it is a blast! Maybe a bit chaotic at times, but there is never a dull moment!

Today I had my last voice lesson and talent rehearsal before the Miss Iowa's Outstanding Teen competition. Both of these times have really allowed me to become more comfortable as a preformer. I hope that all those efforts that I have made to perfect my performance can be seen on the Adler stage next week!

The rest of the week I plan on relaxing as much as possible. Tomorrow I am getting a massage and getting my hair done to make sure that I am looking and feeling my best for the upcoming week! We check in at the Clarion Hotel to begin our pageant week in two days! I cannot wait to get to know all the girls and to catch up with girls I haven't seen in a long time.

I hope to blog a couple different times next week so that you can stay updated on everything that is going on, and believe me, there is a lot!

Until then,
Jess :)
