It has been a busy couple weeks! Preparing for Miss Iowa week takes a lot of time, but I love it all, and it has been a great experience.
The week after my last post was a very long week. Spending most of the week on the couch, sick with a fever really made it hard to continue my preparations; however, once I was better I jumped right back in! That weekend I even made a trip up to Chicago with some of my board members and Miss Muscatine's Outstanding Teen, Brooklyn Heuer, to shop for jewelry. We all had a great time and it was nice to be able to spend time together, not to mention we got some awesome jewelry! :P
I have been continuing my classroom visits at Herbert Hoover Elementary School once a week for about a month now, and I could not have asked for a better class! Everyone is so interested in what is happening, and they really enjoy all the games and activities that I have, which all involve healthy living. This helps them understand that eating right and exercising can and should be fun!
I also made a trip to Neil Armstrong Elementary to talk to the second grade classes. I joined Miss Pearl City, Elizabeth Davidson, to talk to the children about healthy living. Her platform, Making Smiles Happen, meshed perfectly along with my platform, A Healthy Future. It was great to be able to spend time with her and be able to work with the kids.
With one of the classes we talked to.
Saturday was extremely busy! I had to wake up early in the morning to be able to get ready for Miss Iowa Orientation. Here, there were plenty of guest speakers who talked to all of the girls about the responsibilities of Miss Iowa and Miss Iowa's Outstanding Teen. We even got the chance to watch some of the Miss America interviews, including Miss Iowa, Pauli Mayfield's interview, which earned her the Non-Finalist Interview award at Miss America! After that, there were plenty of places the contestants needed to be, such as meeting with the state directors, giving a mock interview, and timing our talent.
Soon after Orientation was over, I had to rush to get ready because that night I had Prom! Luckily, the place for pictures and dinner was right across the street from where orientation was so I didn't have to go far. It was so much fun, but it was a very long night, and everyone was exhausted after wards!

Prom Pictures! :)
Still trying to catch up on my sleep, I have been trying to work even more to prepare for Miss Iowa. Arranging appearances, keeping up on my current events, and working on my talent takes up a lot of time. There are still plenty of things that I want to get accomplished in the next month, and I am determined to do just that!
