And The Countdown Begins!

17 Days until Miss Iowa Orientation...
53 Days until Miss Iowa Week begins...
57 Days until Miss Iowa Prelims...
59 Days until Miss Iowa Finals...

We are getting to the point where we are less than two months to Miss Iowa! As excited as I am, there is still so much more to be done. I look forward to everything that I can accomplish within the next two months, and I am appreciative of every opportunity I have received so far.

This past week has been especially fulfilling in many ways.

Thursday I went to see my high school's musical, The Pajama Game. The performance was fantastic and truly enjoyable. Then on Friday, I got the chance to go down to Muscatine to see the Middle School perform Grease Jr. It was great to be able to see Miss Muscatine's Outstanding Teen, Brooklyn Heuer, as Sandy in the Musical. She did a fantastic job, and so did the rest of the cast. Both musicals I saw were great performances and I congratulate each cast on a successful show.

Saturday was extremely busy! In the morning I had a dress fitting for my Miss Iowa wardrobe. Seeing them all fitted got me really excited for the competition. It seemed that by having my wardrobe come together I could see everything else come together as well. It was as if all my work was finally paying off, and I could actually see the progress that was being made.

Saturday afternoon was equally exciting. My directors, Ashley and Kindra, came to my house in order to help me prepare for my photo session later in the afternoon with Ann Steward Photography. When I finally arrived to Ann's studio we immediately got to work. It was a lot of fun and we got some really great photos! Just from what I have seen so far I am really excited about the results that will come from my time spent there.

That night I attended a classical performance at the Orange Street Theater. Performing there was Miss Pearl City, Elizabeth Davidson, and Miss Muscatine, Jessica Pray. The joined Dana Starkell, a classical guitarist, to put on a wonderful show! The talent of these three individuals is greatly admirable. I, along with the rest of the audience, thoroughly enjoyed watching and listening to their amazing talents.

Sunday, It was off to the Miss Iowa Bridal show at the Blackhawk Hotel in Davenport. Here, I got to meet with other title holders and nearly 20 wedding vendors. Although I'm no where near ready to be getting married :P it was still fun to see the great designs and products offered. Overall it was a great event and everyone had a wonderful time.

Monday I went back to the elementary school to work with the same class as the week before. This week we started working on the President's Challenge and discussed different ways to stay active and healthy. The willingness to participate by the students is very encouraging and I am looking forward to the progress we can make. :)

Finally, this week I also had my first meeting for the YMCA, where I will be working part time starting this May. I am so excited to work as an instructor in children's cheer programs. Not only will I be able to work with kids and continue cheering, I will also be able to further my platform. Here, I will be able to directly work with kids on staying active and healthy! It is a great opportunity and I look forward to taking full advantage of it.

There are plenty more events and opportunities coming up that will only help me on my way to Miss Iowa and I look forward to sharing those with you!

Until then,
<3 Jess
