Hello Orlando :)

Hi Everyone :)

I hope everyone was able to enjoy their spring break. Even though it may not have always felt like Spring here in Iowa, other parts of the country experienced much nicer weather. Such as Orlando, Florida where I happened to spend my vacation.

On Saturday my family and I began our drive to Orlando. After what seemed ages, we finally arrived to the rental house that we would be sharing with eleven other family members from Wisconsin. Although fifteen people in one house may seem cramped, it was actually enjoyable. We were able to spend time together since we really don't get to see each other often.

Our first full day in Orlando it was off to Sea World. :) We got to spend the day watching shows, riding the roller coasters, and spending time together as a family.

The second day, we were off to Universal Studios. There, we were surprised about how many people were at the park. They actually had to close off part of the park because there were so many people! Eventually we did get to go everywhere we wanted to and we ended up having a really great time.

Day three was spent at Cocoa Beach. Here, we really got to enjoy Florida. The warm sun and the beach was a great escape from the wintry weather of Iowa. Later that day, we went down to one of the surf shops along the beach. There I got a cute sundress that I will now have to wait to wear until the weather gets a bit warmer here. :P

The final two days were spent relaxing, shopping, and we even went to a dinner show. Overall it was a great vacation and I would go back again in a heart beat!

One thing that I learned on my vacation, is that it is very easy to slip out of habits of healthy eating. Since unhealthy foods are always so convenient, many people forget what they should be eating, and instead they choose the things that are easily available. However, it is still possible to maintain healthy eating habits. It is all about choices. Whether you are on vacation or at home you will always have options.

Different parks will have different food options. One restaurant we visited gave the options of chicken strips and fries, or a turkey wrap with a side of fruit. Here the choice was easier to make because they put side by side. Where as at a different park making healthy choices required a little more effort. At one stand I was able to get my main course, then, instead of picking a bag of chips or a cookie, I walked across the path to get some fresh fruit. Although it may have been easier just to get the chips, it would not have been the better choice. Making small decisions like that could make a huge difference in your overall lifestyle.

Just imagine putting this method to work at home. Think of the progress everyone could make if they just stopped to think about their choices! Today, my mother and I made a trip to the grocery store, and instead of aimlessly going through the aisles, picking out what ever sounded good at the moment, we planned ahead. We researched healthy meals and made a list of the ingredients needed, along with adding plenty of fruits and vegetables. Now, making choices at my house will be a lot easier because of the simple fact that we took a little extra time to plan them out!

I will write again soon, until then, remember, even the smallest choices could make the biggest difference!

Jessica :)
